4TH INTERNATIONAL DUBLIN GAY THEATRE FESTIVAL .. MAY 2007 ..
One of the highlights of the theatre calender in Dublin, is the annual gay theatre festival, which offers a varied programme of events, from drama to cabaret to comedy and dance... I always try and catch a handful of performances if possible...
An interesting double bill of drama came in the form, firstly of Jack The Lad, presented by London New Play Festival & Perfume Productions.. This play followed the Dublin premiere with a run at London's Soho Theatre.. It tells the tale of Jack, a rent boy who finds out about his past, from his clients.. This adult reworking of Jack and the Beanstalk, does not have a happy ending! Also on the bill was 'Dream Man' , from Spain.. It concerns Christopher, the Dream Man, the best fantasy host in the buisness of telephone sex lines! Both productions played at the Project Arts Centre, a regular supporter of the festival...
A total change of scene comes in the form of the 'Barenaked Lads', hailing from the windy city of Chicago, this variation on the worldwide hit 'Naked Boys Singing', features five guys and a dame! Created by David Zak who had worked on 'Naked Boys', decided to create a new show with the best talent in Chicago! This production played at the now closed Andrews Lane Theatre...
