Sorry for the gaps in posting..But I have been very busy and concentrating on my Joan Collins Archive .. Will try and update at least once a week! Last Sunday I attended a preview of "Fame The Musical" at Dublin's new Grand Canal Theatre... Although not a fan of the original film or series..although like the soundtrack..mainly the Irene Cara classic.. My main reason for attending was due to the fact, that the production starred one of my favourite Soul/Disco Diva's..Sheila Ferguson..former lead singer of the legendary The Three Degrees.... Sheila was as excellent in the production as the strict but caring Miss Sherman and her vocal abilities were as dynamic as ever, with her big number "These Are My Children" a powerhouse number.. This production started life on RTE television, as they ran a series to find performers to play the lead roles of Nick and Serena, the winners were Ben Morris and Jessica Cervi, who are at home in the roles, especially Jessica, who has a natural talent. Although I must say the entire cast are excellent and up to the challenge of an energetic musical. with Brittany Woodrow as tragic Carmen Diaz a standout among the crowd... "Fame The Musical" has productions in 25 countries, including a current tour in Australia.. The sets and costumes of the Irish production were used in the West End version, where it first premiered in 1995 and was nominated for two Laurence Olivier Awards, a new UK tour is currently doing the rounds.. All in all an entertaining evening and I was delighted to see Sheila strut her stuff and even more delighted to say hello to her after the show.. "Fame The Musical" - apparently going to live forever!!
