One of Oscar Wilde's most popular plays has had many revivals over the years, with the most recent production staged at The Abbey, with an all male cast!, while the most recent London cast included Penelope Keith as Lady Bracknell. This latest version boasts a strong cast lead by Hollywood and Broadway legend, Stockard Channing as the ferocious Lady B. I have been an admirer of Stokard's work for many years and although she will forever be attached to the smash hit film "Grease", where she played the tom boyish Rizzo, it is her many other roles that have fascinated me. One of my favourite films of hers is the 1973 movie "The Girl Most Likely To", where she plays the dumped on by everyone , Miriam, who gets her revenge on all her tormentors by changing her appearance and killing them all off!  A wonderful black comedy written by another favourite of mine, Joan Rivers!. But back to "Earnest", Stockard looks wonderful as Lady Bracknell in two show stopping outfits, especially a stunning red frock and matching feathered hat in the second act! She gives an understated performance as the terrifying Lady Bracknell and all comparisons between her performance and that of the iconic Dame Edith Evans, when we get to matters of a handbag, are well and truly forgotten. Of course the other players in this Rough Magic production are excellent and hold up well in the presence of a true star!  I was delighted to meet Stockard after the show and she was as lovely as expected and a shy lady! All in all a wonderful production with a great set, costumes and importantly a stellar cast. Shown here are a signed program, flyer, cover of "Girl most Likely", ticket and shots of myself with Stockard..
