THE MAGIC OF MANCINI with MONICA MANCINI .. NATIONAL CONCERT HALL DUBLIN.. FEBRUARY 23RD 2012..

As part of the RTE Concert Orchestra's Spring 2012 season, a special tribute to legendary Oscar winning composer Henry Mancini was held at Dublin's National Concert Hall.. Under the direction of conductor David Brophy, the orchestra played a selection of Mancini's legendary tunes.. One of the highlights for me was the guest appearance of Henry's daughter grammy nominated Monica Mancini, who I am a fan of her wonderful voice.. Along with her husband, legendary music director of the Oscars and collaborator on albums by legends including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Barbra Streisand, Gregg Field, all three came together to present a most wonderful evening of music.
Opening with the iconic 'Pink Panther' theme and sailing through numbers including 'The Thorn Birds' theme, to 'Peter Gunn' to the popular 'Baby Elephant Walk'... Monica extended her set as she was in awe of the RTE Concert orchestra, she considers them the best in the world, a high recommendation from a lady who has toured the best venues in the USA and beyond.. Having been used to listening to Monica's cd's, I was thrilled she sang some of my favourites from her albums including the Leslie Bricusse song 'Two For The Road', and her tribute to her father, 'Music On The Way', ending the show with of course the classic 'Moon River'... Was delighted to pop back to see Monica, who was off to Palm Desert for her next show after they flew back to LA, as Greg was musical director on The Academy Awards show.... Look forward to Monica's next concert and recording!
WITH MONICA AFTER THE SHOW!
