MYSELF AND REBECCA
One of my favourite songbirds is the Yorkshire born singer and West End star, now recognised as Ireland's First Lady Of Musical Theatre, the wonderful Rebecca Storm. Rebecca started her career appearing in all of the West End's biggest shows.. From "Evita" to "Chess", " Les Miserables" to "Blood Brothers", for which she is now closely associated with in Ireland, as she regularly appears as Mrs Johnston in the Gaiety Theatre every few years. Apart from her musical career, Rebecca is a successful recording artist and to date has released 6 best selling albums, with a new cd and DVD due in 2011! I have attended Rebecca's many concerts over the years and now I can call her a friend and it was with great pleasure I attended her 25th Anniversary concert as part of her nationwide tour, at the National Concert Hall, on Sat 2nd October... Accompanied by her orchestra, led by Alan Smale and joined by her regular backing singer and friend Mary Lowe, who introduced her group of singers, her choir group CORus, who accompanied Rebecca on a couple of songs.. All of the songs that Rebecca has sung throughout her career were there. From "Evita" .."Don't Cry For Me Argentina", "I Dreamed A Dream" from "Les Miserables".. to "I Know Him So Well" from "Chess", which she performed as a duet with Mary Lowe.. Also included were a selection of songs from Rebecca's hit show "The Barbara Streisand Songbook", "People", "Second Hand Rose" "Don't Rain On My Parade" along with many other of her favourites culminating in the song she is most associated with in Ireland .." Tell Me It's Not True".. As always a top class evening of entertainment by a consummate professional and I look forward to her 2011 show, to be recorded for DVD.. A front row seat essential for that evening! Watch this space.. Here's to 25 more years of entertainment from Rebecca...
